These Halloween puffy paint monsters are made with a simple homemade puffy paint using shaving foam and glue, then decorated with googly eyes, pom-poms, pipe cleaners, glitter, and other craft supplies.
I made 6 free Halloween printable templates so kids can choose their favorite character and make it completely their own.
This is a fun Halloween craft for preschool, kindergarten, classroom parties, homeschool, or an easy activity at home.

How to Make Homemade Puffy Paint
You only need a few simple ingredients:
- Shaving foam
- White school glue
- Food coloring (I used blue, red & yellow)
- Small cups or bowls
- Craft sticks or spoons for mixing
- Pom-Poms, glitter, pipe cleaners
Mix roughly equal parts shaving foam and white glue until the mixture is thick and fluffy.
Then add a few drops of food coloring.
For orange, I mixed red and yellow food coloring until I got the shade I wanted.
You can make several colors so kids can choose their own monster.
How to Make the Halloween Puffy Paint Monsters
Print and cut out your chosen Halloween template, then place or glue it onto cardstock or construction paper.
Let kids spread the puffy paint over the printable using a paintbrush, craft stick, or even their fingers.
While the paint is still wet, decorate the monster with whatever you have on hand.
We used things like:
- Googly eyes
- Pom-poms
- Pipe cleaners
- Foam circles
- Glitter
- Markers
- Small Halloween decorations
There are no rules here — one monster can have seven eyes, another can have curly antennae, and another can be covered in pom-poms. That’s what makes this Halloween activity so much fun.
Make a Puffy Paint Ghost or Mummy
The same puffy paint works perfectly for the ghost and mummy templates.
Use puffy paint as is and spread it thickly across the printable.
For the puffy paint ghost craft, add eyes and a little glitter if you want some sparkle.
For the mummy, you can move the paint in different directions to make it look like wrapped bandages, then add eyes peeking through.
Let Kids Get Creative
These printables are meant to be a starting point rather than a craft that has to look a certain way.
Let kids choose:
- Their monster color
- How many eyes it has
- Where the mouth goes
- Whether it needs horns or antennae
- Pom-poms, glitter, or pipe cleaners
- Silly or spooky expressions
The finished monsters all turn out completely different, which is the best part.
A Fun And Sensory Easy Halloween Craft For Kids
The fluffy puffy paint adds a sensory element too. Kids get to spread, swirl, and layer the thick paint while decorating their monster, making this a nice hands-on Halloween sensory activity as well as an art project.
It’s especially good for preschool and early elementary ages.
Just keep in mind that shaving foam isn’t meant to be eaten, so supervise younger children during the activity.
