Thanksgiving 5 Second Game Printable
If you’re looking for a low prep yet fun Thanksgiving game that the whole family can play together, this Thanksgiving 5 Second Game is a must one to have ready for Thanksgiving Day.
There’s almost no setup involved. Print the cards, cut them out, grab a timer, and you’re ready to play.
Each player gets just five seconds to name three things that match the card they’re given. It sounds easy until the timer starts ticking and suddenly you can’t remember three Thanksgiving desserts!
It’s quick, silly, and easy enough for kids to understand, while still being fun for teens and adults. That makes it a great game to pull out after Thanksgiving dinner, while everyone is waiting for dessert, at a Friendsgiving gathering, or even for a Thanksgiving classroom party.
And I’ve made it easy for you to try it first with a free printable set of 18 Thanksgiving 5 Second Game cards.

What Is the Thanksgiving 5 Second Game?
The idea is simple: name three things before five seconds are up.
Each card gives the player a Thanksgiving or fall-themed category. For example, a card might ask you to name three Thanksgiving foods, three things you are thankful for, or three things you might see at a Thanksgiving dinner.
Start the timer as soon as the question is read.
If the player can give three answers before the five seconds are over, they earn a point or keep the card.
That little five-second time limit is what makes the game so much fun. Even an easy question can suddenly feel difficult when everyone is watching and the clock is ticking!
What You’ll Need
You only need:
- Thanksgiving 5 Second Game cards
- Scissors
- A phone or five-second timer
- Pen and paper if you want to keep score
You can also skip the scoring completely and just play for laughs, which works especially well when you’re playing with younger kids or a big family group.
How to Play Thanksgiving 5 Second Game
- Choose one player to go first and have another player read a card aloud.
- As soon as the question has been read, start the five-second timer.
- The player must name three answers that fit the category before time runs out.
- If they name all three, they earn one point.
- Then move on to the next player and draw a new card.
- Keep playing until everyone has had the same number of turns. The player with the most points at the end wins.
For a more competitive version, if a player can’t name all three answers in time, you can pass the same question to the next player. Just don’t let them repeat answers that have already been given.
This passing rule is also used in another version of the game and makes the rounds more challenging.
