Supplies You Will Need
To make this printable fall leaf hedgehog craft, you will need:
- Printed hedgehog craft template
- White paper or cardstock
- Child-safe scissors
- Glue stick
- Crayons, markers or colored pencils if using the black-and-white version
Cardstock will make the finished hedgehog sturdier, especially if you plan to display it on a bulletin board. Regular printer paper also works well for a quick activity.
How to Make the Fall Leaf Hedgehog
1. Print the template
Choose between the colored pages and the black-and-white pages.
For a quick, print-and-go activity, use the colored version. If you would like children to add their own creativity, print the black-and-white hedgehog craft template.
2. Color the pieces
If you are using the black-and-white pages, invite children to color the hedgehog and fall leaves.
Traditional fall colors such as red, orange, yellow, brown and golden green look beautiful, but children can choose any colors they like. Every hedgehog can be different!
3. Cut out the hedgehog
Carefully cut around the outside of the hedgehog. Younger children may need help with this part.
4. Cut out the leaves
Cut out the individual paper leaves, pumpkin and acorn. This step makes the activity a wonderful fine-motor fall craft for preschool and kindergarten children.
If you are preparing this activity for toddlers or a large classroom group, you can cut out some or all of the smaller pieces in advance.
5. Arrange the leaves
Place the paper leaves over the brown back of the hedgehog. Begin near the outside edge and overlap the leaves as you move inward.
Children can use only a few leaves or create a big, fluffy pile. Let them experiment with the arrangement before gluing everything down.
6. Glue everything in place
Once the child is happy with the arrangement, glue the leaves onto the hedgehog’s back. Add the pumpkin and acorn wherever they look best.
